Kat is the founder of Vets On Wheels. She graduated in 2006 from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. She did several externships including Bristol Veterinary University as well as at the Hippodrome Clinic of Cagnes Sur Mer, until she started an Internship at the University Of Liverpool’s Philip Leverhulme Equine Hospital. She then went into equine private practice in the UK, working with Swanbridge Vets in Hull and CJ Greens in Sheffield while completing a certificate specialising in Equine practice. While working in the UK she set up Vets On Wheels in Malta, a fully equipped ambulatory service which was much needed on the islands. She developed the practice over the years, until finally, in 2018 she opened the first Equine Surgical Facilities in Malta. She has been a long-standing member of the Malta Veterinary Council, was co-founder of the Malta Horse Society, and offers services as a consultant in the veterinary sector. She is a mother of a young boy and enjoys swimming and sailing in her little free time.
Dr. Carla started her journey into the Veterinary world in Latin America where she graduated as a Veterinarian Surgeon in 2006. From there she worked for numerous years in Venezuela before moving to Malta in 2011. Dr Carla is a passionate animal lover who dedicates her life to both the love and the science of animals. Intrigued in small animals, she has completed a number of courses in different areas with special interests in ultrasonography and cardiology in Australia, Spain and Argentina and is also currently undertaking her masters in Anesthesia, Analgesia and Surgery at the University of Barcelona in Spain. In her free time, Dr Carla enjoys dancing and anywhere where she can bask in the sun, both in Malta as well as while travelling to all corners of the globe. She is a bright, fun loving person and is deeply interested in all her veterinary cases, both while at work and in her out of office hours, where she shares her life with her husband, black Labrador "Rum" and adopted cat " Pos"
Federica started working as a veterinary nurse at the young age of 16 and later graduated from Mcast. She continues to further her studies regularly with foreign Vet Nurse Institutions, keeping herself up to date with the latest and best of care for her patients. Her main interests are aneasthesia, analgesia and pain management in the veterinary patient. Her two rescue dogs Sprite and Ali are proof of the love she has for animals. She juggles her free time between volunteering with various sanctuaries, and taking long walks with her husband and two pooches.
Emma is currently studying at MCAST to achieve a degree in Animal Management and Veterinary Nursing. Some of her interests are taking care of the in-house patients, preparing animals for surgery and learning about various cases that are seen at the clinic. Emma is passionate when working with animals and is always keen to continue expanding her knowledge as a vet nurse. She loves to volunteer and spends most of her free time around dogs and horses.
Kurt Vella studied for the Diploma in Animal Care at MCAST. His role at Vets On Wheels is to greet customers at reception, direct calls, and help out the nurses when needed. His love for animals is visibly seen by the empathy he shows to our clients and their loved ones, especially when they are in need of urgent and intensive care. He has his own set of responsibilities at home as he has to take care of his pony "Bianca" and his dog called "Trouble".
Claire joined Vets on Wheels in September 2019. She graduated from University of Liverpool in 2010. Claire's first job was in mixed practice before starting an internship at Rossdale’s Equine Hospital in Newmarket were she became experienced in the diagnosis and management of lameness as well as a wide range of sport horse conditions. Claire’s particular interest is in lameness and surgery and in October 2013 she started a ‘Residency in Equine Surgery’ at the University of Liverpool, during which she gained experience in all types of surgery and complex lameness investigation. Claire holds the certificate in advanced veterinary practice in equine soft tissue surgery and equine orthopaedic surgery with a particular interest in orthopaedic imaging. Claire also holds a masters degree in the investigation of septic joints and has publications on septic joints and eye surgery. Claire’s research led to invitations to speak at the European and American College of Veterinary Surgeons Congresses in 2015 and 2016, and a BEVA regional meeting in 2018. Claire is also an FEI permitted treating vet. From 2017-19 Claire worked at Nantwich Equine Clinic,UK where she was responsible for equine surgeries and lameness investigations. Outside of work Claire enjoys riding, distance running, and walking her three dogs Oakley, Frank and Stanley
Kristýna graduated from the University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Brno, Czech Republic. Since then she has completed an equine internship in Tierklinik Lüsche in Germany, where she gained experience in sports medicine, orthopaedics, surgery and also advanced treatment of laminitis. After finishing her internship Kristýna worked as part of the surgical team in Clinique Equine Acy-Romance in France and in Tierztpraxis Wessling in Germany. Her main interests are lameness management, surgery, endocrinopathies and laminitis. In 2020 she joined the IAVC to pursue her interest as an equine chiropractor. When time allows, Kristýna likes to play her violin and piano, riding, go on a hike with her sister or read a captivating book. She competed in dressage and showjumping from a young age.
Naomi has spent all her life around horses and animals. She has experience as a jockey, and is a qualified veterinary nurse and qualified groomer. Her passion is horse racing and anything that has to do with the horse-racing industry. She completed her studies at the University of Nottingham, England as a Veterinary Physiotherapist. She offers her services to all Vets On Wheels Clients adding a very professional note to the aftercare of our patients, and fitness preparation for races.
Jenni, Our practice manager, has been a dedicated horse-woman throughout her life. Having spent many years working in banking and finance, she is now managing our clinic, co-ordinating the staff and helping owners and clients deal with their everyday queries….always with a big smile! Her dedication reflects her passion for anything equine!
